Part of my work as an artist involves collaborations and commissions, ranging from pet portraits to tattoo and logo designs. One of my favorite collaborative projects has been working on a tattoo design with Stephen Alvarez, a photographer for National Geographic and a fellow Sewanee local. Alvarez has focused much of his recent work on documenting Paleolithic artwork around the world. This design is inspired by a cave painting of a wooly rhinoceros that Alvarez photographed in Chauvet Cave in France. I attempted to evoke the texture of the rock as a surface medium, while also capturing the original form and flow of the painting.
